Internet Explorer will not connect to the internet but firefox will

Well i've been having problems with IE now for around 1 month and haven't solved it. Each time i open it it will open but won't connect.
It started when i got a virus, i got rid of the virus but now cannot use IE and programs related to IE like Windows Live Messenger.
The error also tells me something about my proxxy settings but i didn't quite understand it :P I've tried the different methods of going into Internet Options going to the advanced tab and resetting then restarting my computer but it still didn't work.

    Any help please?

    Try this, but no promises

    Go to search
Type windows features turn on or off
    go into features, untick IE
    Now boot
    Turn it back on.
    Does it work better?

Remember no promises on this one

    Go to:

    Control Panel/Internet Options/Connections/LAN Settings/

Is there a check in the Proxy Server box? Uncheck it and you should be able to connect. If that clears it up I suggest installing Hitman Pro as it will remove the proxy settings completely. Hitman Pro is not freeware but it offers a trial license and will remove malware.

Proxy issue in most probability. Or it might be that there is an old dialup setting there while you are using LAN. Just delete any settings except default in IE settings and you should be back online again with IE.
