Maybe because they don't want to have to do one for every language pack they offer? English may be the preferred language for a lot of people but its not the only one available to windows users.

This is exactly the question I have. Why after 9 iterations of Internet Explorer are we still relying on 3rd party apps to check spelling?
I don't think it is a priority for MS. Plus, not everyone uses US English. At least with Chrome the download mirror usually knows where I am & downloads a British English version. Even SeaMonkey has a British version now (saves me copy & pasting a British English dictionary file into SM's dictionary folder or downloading a new one) & Mozilla has support for many dictionaries.

This makes absolutely no sense at all to me. This should have been a standard a long time ago. I'm using IE9 right now and I like it a lot. If they don't infuse a spell check, I'll go back to Google Chrome in protest. Are the developers having discussions about this at all?

The 64 bit IE 8 is quite good in my opinion, it would be better with a spellchecker though!

You're right It doesn't make sense for the most used browser in the world not to have an internal spellchecker.

It's high time MS pulled their finger out about this. If MS can release something as good as Microsoft Security Essentials they can surely develop an internal inline spellchecker for a multiplicity of languages.

If they can release something as fantastic as Win 7, WP7 and Bing, surely they can include a spell check. Why don't they notice this?

Minefield (Firefox x64) has a built in spell checker, but I keep getting this error every time I load Minefield:

    Minefield said:
What happened: TypeError: Components.classes[‘@mozilla.org/extensions/manager;1’] is undefined
Minefield seems to randomly crash for no apparent reason. I haven't found the cause yet. I'd use Minefield for the spell checker, but it wants to crash, and I want to use a 64-bit browser now that Adobe supports 64-bit.
    Hi, HOT97ECLIPSEGSX, I don't have an answer for IE9 Spell-check as I don't use it.

I do, however, use Minefield (FF) x64 4.0b8pre. The start up issue you are having is due to an incompatible extension or plug-in being loaded. Open Minefield and go to "Add-ons" by selecting it from the drop down menu or typing "Ctrl+Shift+A":

Disable them one by one until the error message is no longer present at the start up of Minefield.

Once you find the offending add-on, look for an update or a version specifically designed to work with the x64 build of Minefield or leave it disabled.

I think they're too busy trying to make IE 9 the fastest browser in history LOL!

I hope the entire team isn't working on browser speed. That must be some meager budget Balmer has them on if it is. lol.

I mean in all seriousness, when all is said and done, why even build a browser just to end up a Section 8 level utility? I mean I know a guy who has a book shelf full of books and hasn't read a single one and he got them just to make people think he's intelligent. Is this what IE has become? A fast browser to brag about so people will think more of it?

What does it matter if speed is all your competition is up against? Once they best you on speed, and they will, you've wasted a lot of time and money on a simple version number. C'mon Son. Why no built in spell check?

It sort of makes you think doesn't it?

This is a bit of a worry, I mean, speed is all people seem to compare a browser with these days.

You go to the section you want your thread in and click the yellow "New Thread" button.

Check out Speckie for an addon that adds inline spell checking. works with 32 and 64 bit versions of IE.
