    IE 8 and Google

I have IE 8 and went to open a Gmail account. It asked if I wanted Google to be open all the time, I said "Yes". My home page comes up and a tab of Google automatically comes up. If I change the Google page to a different site, a new Google tab opens up. How can I stop the Google tab from opening? Thanks,

    "Open Control Panel/Internet Options/General"

and look at the entries in the Home Page window. Is there one for Google along with your desired home page?

Edit: I reread your post and I see something else is going on. Have you checked in the gmail settings?

I don't have gmail but since gmail is really just a website (not an email program) if you say you want it to stay open maybe that's how it's done. Perhaps there is an option to change it back to "not open all the time" and that will fix it.
