Windows 7: extra login step for Hotmail

Win 7
extra login step for Hotmail

Can't find my problem, so will request specific help: I'm using Win 7 with IE 8 and have a WL Hotmail account.
I normally access my mail by clicking the dropdown arrow on the address bar, then click the address for the Hotmail login page. This used to work just fine, but about two months ago I started having the problem of being detoured to a login page where I hover on my name, then I get a login button with the message under it that I'm already logged in, but I have to click the stupid button before it will take me on to my mail.
I know it's a very minor thing and only takes an extra 30 seconds or so, it's just annoying because it's so senseless. Why are they trying to make me login if I'm already logged in?
I've found that I can temporarily fix this by creating a new account and letting my computer go into hibernation, rather than shutting down. But that has a problem too, because after 12-15 resumes, Win 7 refuses to resume and I have to do a shutdown, then full start. Then my temporary fix is gone again.
