Searching for Files When Attaching to Gmail

I've noticed that when I try to attach a file to an email in Gmail, the Explorer window that opens for me to browse for the file(s) has no search function. I'm having to click through tons of directories and folders to get to the files. Am I missing something? This happens in both Chrome and FireFox. Image of the Explorer window that I get is attached.

Well that's retarded (not you). Unfortunately, all the files I need to attach are not in the same folder and never will be. Search is a pretty basic function, and I can't believe it is not there!

When I went to attach a file to this post, the Explorer window that popped up had a search box at the top right. Why the heck would Gmail not do this? (well, Gmail does in OS X, but not in Windows apparently)

Even drag and drop would be an improvement.
