    IE 9 Beta impressions/questions

Okay, so i saw an ad about IE9 and how its awesome and stuff. Me, being a firefox user, and avid dislike-er of IE 7/8, was apprehensive, but hey, i gave it a shot, and i actually kinda like it.

I value form as much as function, and i love the way IE9 looks. reminds me of firefox3 beta, actually... What kind of personalization options are there?

    Anyways, a few questions/concerns:
    1) is there any way to have a bookmark toolbar up at the top, like it has in firefox?
If you dont know what i mean, this is what i mean

    2) I visit a site that uses a lot of javascript, and every time i log into the site, windows pops up with a security question, asking me if i want java to be used. This never happened with firefox, so i dont know whats going on. i figured i could just give IE9 admin abilities, but that doesnt sound like a good idea in the long run...

    3) there was one bug i found already, and it was very very odd. I went to go change my homepage, in tools>internet options. IE9 froze for a few seconds, then the highlighted menu option stuck on the screen. I closed IE9, showed desktop, bandbox selected over it, force closed IE9 and even force closed explorer.exe. The only fix to the problem was a restart, Though i didnt try opening a fullscreen program, or relogging into windows. but still, it was really odd that force closing IE9 didnt fix the problem.

    4) I tried going to youtube, however it says i need flash for internet explorer. I go to download it and it says that the link is to a version that doesnt work for IE9, and it links me to one that supposedly does. i installed it, and it still says i need flash.

Anyways, does anybody have an answer to the questions? Sorry if theyre all well known, i dont normally use IE. I really am impresed with this version of IE, however, and i think i may continue to use it over firefox! thanks!

I can answer questions 1 and 4. If you want the favorites toolbar, right-click somewhere next to the new tab button (but not above it) and then check the favorites toolbar option. As for Flash, download the latest Flash Beta located here:

    As far as Q2 goes:
IE is unique in a way that it supports ActiveX rather than actual plugins (I don't really know the difference) but the Java popup you're seeing is executed by the application installed on your computer...

If by any chance this is not what you're seeing, click the gear icon in IE and go to Manage add-ons and follow the screenshot below:

Just as a sidenote, the java helper thingy is turned off in my IE because it slightly lowers the startup time of IE, so disable it first and see if the "issue" goes away. If not, enable this add-on and try again.

    Hope this helps.

I found a bug with IE9 when I downloaded it a couple of months back it uninstalled my
IE 8 at the same time with no warning.

Are they still performing that stupid trick ?

It isn't a "trick". It tells you that it will install over your old browser on the install page.

You sure about that i didn't see anything.
Download details: Windows Internet Explorer 9 Beta for Windows 7
I found the warning at the bottom of the download page theres a link to
Internet Explorer 9 Beta Release Notes & there is info about it there about half way down a long page.
Just a thought but installing a beta normally would be in addition to the stable version so maybe that warning should have been on the first page near the top & in big bold red letters.
When i installed mine it was at Internet Explorer 9 Test Drive & there are no warnings to be found there.

Regardless, it isn't a bug because it is supposed to work like that.

When you uninstall IE9 Beta (as you will have to before installing the final release version), you will find that IE8 will be restored.
