    Losing status bar in ie8

Whenever I open a webpage in ie8 I lose the status bar at the base of the screen. (I think its called a status bar - the one with the clock etc). I can only restore it by clicking on restore at the top right of the screen. I'm using win 7 ultimate and nothing I can do seems to help.

    Hi,

If you right-click anywhere in the area indicated can you select 'Status Bar' from the dropdown?

The status bar is the botton of the window of the browser. The Task Bar is at the bottom of the screen and separate from the browser. The Task Bar contains the start-orb at the left and the clock at the right.

Thanks roncerr much appreciated, I could never quite get that right. Now to remember it.
It is the task bar I'm losing.

Right click on the taskbar and choose "properties". Check "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows."

Looks like you are right. I was looking at Vista taskbar properties but Win_7 is missing that option. Since you said it was missing unless you restored the window, I wonder if perhaps you had selected "full screen" mode (Tools/Full Screen or f11). That would hide the taskbar unless the window was restored. Normally it would also hide the upper part of the window frame as well, but I've noticed it sometimes gets stuck and hides the taskbar and only part of the upper frame. In that case leaving full screen mode will fix it, at least for a while. If the problem persists, you could reset IE: Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Reset.

Thanks roncerr I've just installed a maximiser program (ie new windows maximiser) which inadvertently seems to have acted as a work around.
Opening with maximised window from ie properties never works for me but the program seems to have fixed my taskbar problem.
Thank you for all your help.
