You can't export the "Groups" now called "Categories" in WLM.

If you have been either manually or automatically been "signing in" whenever you open WLM, you are using what I call your "signed-in" contact list which is maintained at the web site "contacts.live.com". The website saves both your contacts and your categories so there is no need to back them up. Just sign in with a new WLM client and your contacts will appear as you last left them.

OTOH, if you don't want to sign in, you will be using your "not-signed-in" contact list. Both lists are stored on your pc under "<username>/appdata/local/Microsoft/Windows Live Contacts". You can save the contents of that folder (even though hidden by default) and use it to replace the contents of the same folder for a new install of WLM. Just drag and drop your saved contents into the new folder. Windows will ask several questions about what you are doing so just say "yes" or "try again". Do all this with WLM closed. When you open it your contacts and categories will be visible.

Exact but there are different files with no understandable names and they are heavy (94 Mo) compared with an equivalent .csv file (6 Ko)...

True, but if you want to save the categories associated with your "not-signed-in" contact list, that's the only way I know.
