copy XP Outlook Express files to Win 7 XP Mode ?

Hi Kari,

After using Office 2010 for a bit I find I do not like it very much and want to revert back to Office Enterprise 2007 which I had before, courtesy of my wife's workplace. There are no new documents or files created in Office 2010 to consider, only Outlook 2010 pst files converted over. So I want to go backwards in versions ,which often has compatibility problems. Are all .pst files just files as you said before, really interchangeable ?

So my question is -- Can I save the "Outlook Files" folder from Outlook 2010, with all the .pst files, uninstall Office Professional 2010 and then install Office Enterprise 2007. Finally replace the "Outlook Files" folder from this new Office 2007 with the one saved previously ?? This is all on Win 7 machine.

As soon as I have it set up in Win 7 I will uninstall it from my XP Mode as it is quite slow and not really workable on the virtual machine, probably due to the lack of memory I have allotted to it (512mb).

PS I should have mentioned the "Outlook Files" folder is over 3 GB in size.

Is there any special way to uninstall Office Pro 2010? or
Is it just Control panel\Programs and Features\Uninstall ?

Hi Kari,

I managed to uninstall Office 2010 OK using usual method with no problems.
I have installed Office Enterprise 2007 O but it is a 32 bit program apparently, so my Control Panel tells me, quote "Mail (32-bit)".
Since my Windows is a Win 7 Pro 64-bit system, I do not know if this will give me any grief down the track. Do you think I will have a problem here.

The strange thing that happened is that I copied the 'Outlook Files' folder to another drive before I uninstalled Office 2010. After then installing Outlook 2007, I went to the location where 'Outlook Files' were for Office 2010 and they were still there. They did not delete with the uninstall.

Where the Outlook files are kept on the new install of Outlook 2007 at C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst there are a number of files and folders.
Can you tell me what the RoamCache folder is for please ?
Every file is prefixed by "Stream_" including Autocomplete... , Calendar... , ConversationPrefs... , RssRule... , etc ?

I managed to stop Outlook from downloading everything again but only after it had grabbed 40 MB of emails. These started at the oldest emails I still have on my ISP's webmail. So I will delete this Outlook .pst folder and replace it with the 2010 saved one.
Then fingers crossed. I hope I don't blow it up or burn out another motherboard.

I can go to bed now satisfied that I finally have the setup I was hoping for.
One that my wife will understand, as it is what she uses at work.
All seems OK after copying the 3 GB of email messages across.
Just have some setting up to do and some learning in how to actually use Outlook.
