Windows 7: Problem importing messages to Windows Live Mail

I tried to transfer my mails (outlook express) from my old computer XP to the new one Windows 7, where I installed WLM for the email service. I followed the procedure:

1. Copied the Microsoft Otlook folder with the .dbx files to the new computer
2. Used the import function in WLM to import the messages

Everything seems working. The imported folder in WLM is created, but unfortunately with no messages in it.
Can someone explain the cause of the problem and suggest a solution
The HD of the old computer is re-formated, so I saved the .dbx files on an external HD

I'm afraid I can't help you with this problem but I just wanted to suggest you get in touch with your ISP or computer manufacturer for tech support, but thats only if no one here can help which is very unlikely, we have some computer genius' here. Good Luck

You should have saved the "Outlook Express" folder and when importing in WLM choose the format "Microsoft Outlook Express 6". Then Navigate to the saved folder with all the .dbx files in it.

Thats exactly what I do. WLM goes through each .dbx file. But the Imported folder in WLM i´s empty!

Assuming the OE files are good, the problem may be with WLM. You can do a repair of WLM by going to Programs and Features>>"Windows Live Essentials" and do a repair. It should repair all the installed components of Essentials, including Mail.

I have exactly the same problem! Had OE6 on old XP machine. Upgraded machine with Win 7 64 bit, and using WLM. I used the importing function in WLM, located old OE6 folders I had loaded, the WLM import wizard loads all the OE 6 files and folders taking 15 mins to do it, ( 20k emails), yet when it finishes there are no new emails and folders in WLM. There are Imported folders (1) and Imported folders (2) under storage, yet nothing in the folders. I've checked that they are not marked "read only".

Any other solutions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you for your interest. Repairing WLM didn't solve the problem. What puzzles me is that I get the message "Your messages have been imported in OE6 format" (free translation from swedish ) Shouldn't WLM convert the format of the messages in order to display them?

Now it's two of us!

As a test, I dragged the folder on my Win 98 computer called "Outlook Express" over to my Win 7 computer (32-bit) which is still using WLM 2009/2010. I ran the import wizard, selected from among all the folders (actually .dbx files) available just one of them containing about 200 messages, and imported it sucessfully (both the folder name and it's messages). So you might try it again, selecting only one .dbx, just to see if that will work. If it works that way you can always rerun the wizard to get more. If it still fails to import you could try reverting back to WLE 2009/2010 but unfortunately you have to uninstall 2011 and all its components completely.

Yes, it also said "Your messages have been imported in OE6 format", which acknowledges the original input format selection made at the start.

Now suddenly everithing worked ok. Not only for single maps but for all the OE maps together. I have no explanation why, maybe some automatic windows updates have solved the problem. Anyhow I have no reason to dig further
