    explorer 8 - HELP!!

After visiting a website (not even sure which one), IE8 is broken.

    I run W7, 64-bit, Ultra.

I start explorer. Everything is fine for 5-10 seconds. Then the 3 or so top lines roll off the top of the screen. The task bar disappears and the screen is white. The only line shows at the bottom. It has "done" on the left side. Something about "Internet" on the right side. That's it.

If I click at the very top, I can get back enough to "X" out of the explorer.

I've run virus scans. Don't know what else to do. Foxfire runs fine.

    Can somebody help???

    Many thanks,
    Aj

Try a SFC scan SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    I run Windows 7, 64-bit, Ultra.
    You mean Windows 7 Ultimate?

You can try installing the Internet Explorer 9 beta:

    If Firefox works but IE8 doesn't, try an IE8 reset: Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Reset...

    more difficulties

    I didn't try a new IE version.

I did try running the suggested file scan - no help.

Foxfire DOES work just fine. So I tried the "reset" option - which sounded like a good idea. Except when I click "reset" I get a message that says I must exit from all programs. Nothing is running except for IE8 itself. What am I supposed to do to "stop" all programs?

    Thanks again!

Just ignore that message and continue with the reset.

This will get you to the reset with IE 8 closed.

Start> Device Manager> Internet Options. Then Click the Advanced tab then reset.

Also if this doesn't work try a System Restore before the problem started. Use Method One.
    System Restore

When you get to this window check mark "Show other restore points." This will give you more restore point options.

I think it's "Control Panel" instead of "Device Manager".
