    How to remove/delete IE8 add-ons?

Every reference I've found while searching indicates I should be able to remove an unwanted IE8 added by selecting "remove" in Manage Add-ons. Trouble is I can't find any remove button or menu choice. I have several add-ons disabled but I'd like to permanently remove them.

How can I go about removing an add-on when I don't see a remove option anywhere?

That seems a little extreme...resetting to the initial default state. Isn't there some way to remove a specific add-on without removing them all and losing any other options that are selected?

Double Click on the add-on and it can be removed

I had actually found that eHow link. It says to click on the unwanted add-on, rather than double-click and single clicking didn't reveal the Remove function/button. I'm surprised I didn't try double-clicking but I didn't. Senility I guess.

However, I'm not there yet. When I double-click on any of the add-ons I have installed the "Remove" button is grayed out. That may be why a single click didn't reveal a remove function.

What's the trick to getting the remove button to function?

I went to tools and clicked
    then to manage add-ons
Then I saw the name of the addons, I left double clicked
a new box came into view
on the bottom left, it said remove

    This is with IE 8
Different versions may not be the same
If you do this as I said, the results should be identical.

Try the procedure with several add-on possibly one is corrupt.

Further update, some of mine are grayed out, too. They cannot be removed, just disabled.

Ok. Thanks. I guess I'll have to live with the add-ons in question just disabled for now.

I think you meant Control Panel > Programs and Features. Yes, I tried that and the add-ons aren't shown there.

I don't follow #2. The add-ons I'm looking at aren't associated with a specific web not. At least not that I can tell.

I did make a little progress on one or two though. In IE8 Tools > Manage add-ons I double clicked on one add-on. It listed a specific class ID. I searched the registry and delected that key. That removed the add-on in question from the list in Manage add-ons.

I hope it's really gone and doesn't come back next time I reboot.
