    adobe flash troubles

I tried to find info here to help me get flash to work on this computer. Windows 7 64 bit professional. It was working, and I use IE 32 bit, but then for some reason it just stopped working. I use FF as well and thats not working with flash either. Also, I tried Chrome, and no love there as well.
Problem is, I get the page that says it installed, but I cant view certain web pages, (Square Enix FF14) as they use all flash in their links. I am posting the unresolved issue from the Adobe Forums so you can see where I am at. Thanks
    Greetings.

I have spent the past couple of weeks combing through first the help files, and then these forums looking at what should be the same problem I have. Even now up to the past couple of minutes it seems someone besides me is having this issue. I am wondering if I can get help here as most others have seemed to have gotten resolved.

I don't have Macfee, I am using MS Security Essentials, and Super Anit Spyware and Windows Firewall. With all of them disabled during the installtion the videos still fail. I've tried them on and off again and no help there. Shockwave works just fine but the flv files just don't go anywhere. I am not seeing any reference to flash video in Firefox, and I don't get the object in the addon listing in IE 8.

I tried the beta version for the 64bit and it didnt work either. Oddly, when I got this computer in November, I had flash all over the place. Cnet, Youtube, G4, MMORPG, you name it. All worked just great. Now I have black or white empty boxes and no videos.

It may seem like a long time before asking for help directly, but I am a tenacious bugger that likes to learn and exhaust all possibilities first. I also hoped my question would be answered in this forum as so many people seemingly had the same problem.

Please Help! I am at a loss at this point.

    Thanks
Do you use the 32-bit Internet Explorer? The current release version 10.1 of Flash Player does not run on 64-bit browsers.

Can you see the Flash animation at Adobe - Flash Player on either Internet Explorer or Firefox?

What files do you have in C:\Windows\syswow64\Macromed\Flash ?

I run with the 32 bit IE, according to the document pages in the Adobe instructions. It does not work. I moved over to the 64 bit version and tried the beta flash as well and that doesn't work either. Yes I get the window that says flash succesfully installed, with the version numbers below it. However, if I use the "open link in new tab" it does not show up, and the version window has the little x box in the upper right hand corner.

Files installed in the macromed flash folder are:

    Flashplayer trust folder/ EACorTrust.cfg
    Flash10l.ocx
    FlashInstall
    flashplayer.xpt
    FlashUtil10l_ActiveX.dll
    FlashUtil10l_ActiveX
    FlashUtil10l_Plugin
    install
    NPSWF32.dll

Thank you for the prompt response.

They may be researching, but there's a lot of stuff that's not showing up on web pages (like Cnet) and such.

    Thanks for any help

    Some general questions for you.

1.Is the Flash version installed the current one?
2.Did you use the appropriate uninstall tool prior to updating any Flash versions on your computer?
3.Was the correct Flash download / install used for Firefox?

Have you examined the links below seeking information?

Thank you for your prompt response.

    1) I have version 10,1,102,64 installed. Originally, it did its own thing via update.

    2) I uninstalled using control panel, and reinstalled using the download link on their website for both IE and FF, when the initial update did not work. When that did not work I went back into the website and found the un-installer following this link: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows and followed the instructions there.

    3) Yes I have spent most of this week going step by step through those links to no avail.

Thank you again for your help.

Hi, csilver, welcome to the Seven Forums! :)

I'm going to toss out a few simple things you might have already attempted:

    • Uninstall FF and perform a reinstall.

The above are "just in case" you haven't already attempted to them. I see you've done pretty much all you can with the Flash installation(s) so let's focus on the browsers for a bit.

    still no soap

I've reinstalled FF a couple of times to no avail. Even emptied all of my addons and such and started from scratch. No help there.

I just did the reset on IE. I tried to reinstall the flash player and I still get the same result. It shows "installed correctly" on the adobe site but I cant view Cnet vids or the other vids. Just a blank box where the video should be.

    Thanks for your help.

You're quite welcome, csillver. I wish it were better help, though. :)

You seem to have covered quite a few bases already. Have you ever altered your HOSTS file? Are you running any Script blocking add-ons or software? I'd really hate to go so far as a repair install so, have you tried to go back to a restore point prior to this issue occurring?

I had install problems and the one from this link worked for me:
    Download Flash Player 10.1.102.64 (IE) - FileHippo.com

Hmm, not sure about the HOSTS file (not THAT computer literate) but I do have adblock plus installed. I will try pulling the adblock plus and see what happens. I will also try the link p5 put up.

Of note, the flash does show up the little movies on game sites (like FF14), I got that back, but still no Cnet vids or sports vids. You tube is still out also.

Uh no, after some reading, I've done nothing with the HOSTS file.

yea, the system restore didnt go back and fix this...

I am ready to throw the towel in on this. If I have to lose the browsers entirely its not such a big deal. The only thing I would have to do is zip out the book marks, I have the addons I like all stored on a back up so I am not worried about that.
