Can I download a new email?

I really, really don't like Windows Live Mail. Is there another one I can download, or an older version I can use? Thanks.

There are numerous free email applications available.

Thunderbird is an example.

I'm not sure you have much of a choice if you want a Microsoft application and you want free. You're not alone in your feelings about Microsoft Live Mail.

If you change to another email program, prepare for some frustration if you need to transfer old email and old email addresses from Live Mail to the new program.

So, is there a better email program out there to purchase, or do you all use yahoo and gmail, etc?

As far as I know, hardly anyone purchases email programs. Everybody uses a free program of some type unless they use something like Outlook, which is far more than an email program.

You have to decide if you want web-based email or not. Yahoo and Gmail are 2 popular web-based choices.

Thunderbird is a popular PC-based choice. It doesn't rely on a web browser like Gmail and Yahoo.

It's purely personal preference. Any of them work.

Dream Mail is ok.

I have Yahoo Mail (along with Yahoo Messenger, Yahoo Calendar, etc), Windows Live Mail (and WLMessenger), and Gmail, and of the three, I much prefer the Yahoo group. Yahoo seems to offer more options and preferences than the others, and a large memory, so that I can send and receive very large emails. Functions are easy, and I love the fact that I can set Yahoo Messenger to not only give me pop-ups when I get emails (and IMs too) but I also get a little icon in my system tray alerting me when I have unopened mail. The calendar works very easily with Yahoo Mail --- it's all very seamless.

Also, another very important issue is that my Windows Live email has been hacked quite a few times, but my Yahoo Mail has never been hacked! (Knock on wood!) I don't use my Gmail often, so that really doesn't count. So I'm thinking that Yahoo Mail might be more secure than Windows Live Mail.

It's also possible to get Vista's version of "Windows Mail" working on Windows 7: Windows Mail which has a user interface very much like Outlook Express. The tutorial provides detailed instructions and the two key files (msoe.dll in 32-bit and 64-bit) needed to make it work. It is possible that some future Windows Update could bork the Windows Mail program, but if that happens the Tutorial should eventually be updated with a copy corresponding to Vista's new version. (Should that ever happen one could undo the update until the msoe.dll is replaced in the tutorial and then redo the update and use the new files at the same time.)
