How do I manually check for new mail?

I have my preferences set to look for new mail every 10 minutes. But, if I know someone is sending me an email, how do I manually look for it (other than closing mail and reopening it)? I went to Help, and here is what it says:

Check for new e-mail messages manually

  1. <LI class=listItem>Start Mail.
  2. In the Mail header bar, click the arrow next to Send/receive, and then do one of the following:
    • To check for new e-mail messages in all of your e-mail accounts, click Receive all.
I do not see a Send/Receive in the Mail header bar, nor an arrow next to anything else that may lead me to Receive All. Is this outdated, or am I missing something?

I am assuming you are using Outlook/Outlook Express. If so there should be a send/receive button on top. If not go to View>toolbars> and make sure standard is checked. If not select it and the toolbar with send/receive will pop up.

It's under sync. You can select a single account or all accounts. The F5 function key is a shortcut for it.

There are two versions of Windows Live Mail. The original version had the SYNC button and the newest version has the Send/Receive button.
