1. AIS 6.X
2. PD11
3. Secunia PSI 2.0
4. Firefox 4.0 B11
5. IE 9 RC1
6. ESET On-Line Scanner
7. Windows Defender

I am running my weekly cleanup, Malware and Virus Checking software. In addition to using AIS now at 6.X Beta I run a handful of various anti-Malware and anti-Virus programs. All are run in batch mode and some are cloud programs. No conflicts with Windows Defender or AIS.

One of the anti-Virus programs that I use that runs in batch mode requires a complete new download of the program in order to update the virus signatures and related components in the program. The file size is normally around 55MB. I download my files to my desktop.

I decided to test the download times for this file using IE9 RC1 and Firefox 4.0 B11. My IE9 RC1 configuration is the default install configuration except I changed the download location to Desktop. Firefox is tweeked and has over 20 Addons.

I started the file download with IE. After it was started I then started the download with with Firefox. The Firefox download took a little over 2 minutes to complete and be scanned by AIS. At the time that the file download and scan was completed by Firefox and AIS the IE download window indicated that the download of the same file was only 8% complete with an estimated additional 35 minutes to complete.

Now I do realize that the link to the downloads may connect to several servers so the IE download could be going to a busier or slower server. I also realize that Firefox might have some internal features that automatically give files that you want to download with it a bumped up Auto-Priority.

I may do another download later comparing speeds on another file but for now I have a question.

Is there a way to speed up downloads in IE9 RC1?
