Windows Live Mail storage folder problem

Hello people,

I am new to Windows 7 and need some help to resolve a problem I have when changing the Windows Live Mail storage folder location.

Backgound:

I usually work in three different computers (two desktop PCs and a notebook) and want to keep all my e-mail messages and folders everywere I go without having to import messages, update them or keep a copy at servers, or things like that. Until now, I resolved this very well by keeping the storage folder in a usb drive. All the folders, e-mails, acccounts, etc., were correctly showed when I opened the Windows Live Mail application no matter in which of the three different computers (running XP SP3 32 bits) I plugged the usb drive in.

Problem:

Now I have installed Windos 7 Ultimate 64 bits in my new PC and after changing the default storage folder location at the Windows Live Mail program to point to the one in my usb drive (as usual), I get an error the next time I open the application when it tries to load the messages, etc. from the new location. The error says:

"Closing Windows Live Mail. Your calendar contains corrupt data that is forcing Windows Live Mail to close."

What is going wrong? The storage works perfectly when is used in all the Windows XP 32bits PCs, but cannot be opened in my Windows 7 64 bits PC?

By the way, I don't use the calendar at all and all the Windows Live Mail versions are the same in all my PCs (except for the 32 vs 64 bits versions I supose).

Any ideas? I hope someone can help me with this.

Ok, I found a solution. Just in case it is useful for someone else with the same problem here is what I did:

1. Deleted the Calendar folder at the storage folder I was trying to use (the one in the USB drive). This resolved the error message, but then a new error appeared saying that the folder was in use by another application and the program closed.

2. Changed the properties for the message store folder in the USB drive and set all access permissions for it. This resolved the second error and now everything works like a charm.

I see that this is 384 days old, but I have just found it. If the originator and solver of the problem sees this I would be grateful for his comments.

I have been helping a friend who has XP and WLM 2009, to install Windows 7 on another partition. In order to be able to get to his emails from both, we put the Store folder from the XP WLM in a Data partition (but did not delete anything from the original location).

Then installed WLM 2011 in W7 and changed the Store location to the folder already put into Data. It seemed to import emails, contacts etc as expected. (We do not use the Calendar).

On returning to XP and trying to open WLM we got the same message that you have reported, plus another "Your messages have been placed in an orphaned account 0X0000000.20"

On returning to W7 there were no longer any emails or other file material there.

We posted on a "windowslivehelp" forum and received some advice there which led us to only working with one OS - XP -for WLM, and recovering from a backup taken 3 weeks earlier, the files of that time. That is, we lost the more recent. We still have the later Store folder in an external hard drive, in case we can ever find a way to get the files out.

Only the WLM in XP is now used, but it is planned that when most work is being done in W7, WLM 2011 will be reinstalled and WLM 2009in XP will be deleted.

Do you think we could return to our original plan if we did as you did with Calendar?
