    Firefox Crashes

I have been expewriencing app crashes lately... a situation that came on suddenly about three days ago.

The last event was a Firefox crash. A notice popped up saying Firefox was shutting down because an error occurred. This is the fourth or fifth time FF has crashed in the past few days. Before that it was completely stable.

Here is a snip from my event viewer:

I am running FF 3.5 rc2 with the latest security patch released a few days ago. (Maybe its now rc3?)

I originally suspected the new Microsoft Security Essentials was causing this, and had a thread in the Security section about it, but that was only a guess. I figure this problem belongs over here in Software until some hard evidence it is MSE related is found.

Correction: Its rc4 now. Every time I update FF, it resets itself to "auto update", and I missed setting it back to "Ask me what to do". I hate auto updates... damn software companies are getting too highhanded lately. They forget who owns the computer and think they are in control.

If i were you I would make sure i didn't have a virus/spyware and then make sure my mem and/or hard drive weren't dying. d/l memtest to check mem and go to ur hard drive manufacturers web site for a HD diagnostic util.

    It's up to RC3, not RC4.

Sorry about the delay in replying to the questions... had a helluva day today.

I had a few crashes in gadgets, but I think they have stopped. They gave me error messages in event viewer naming javascript.dll as the problem... corrupted or missing files. I followed some advice and uninstalled/reinstalled Java (and I did all the Adobe stuff as well). No more problems with gadgets since then.

    Only two-a-day FF crashes.

This is a new pc, with all new components. I ran memtest and hd tests up the whazoo a month ago while chasing down another problem... I don't think there are any hardware issues in play here.

I noticed the error messages mention "xul.dll". I am running some Stylish mods, and they use xul to make their changes. Could this be caused by Stylish?

In your pics it says faulting module duh.dll. I went to mozilla and their info is here FireFox Crashes XUL.DLL is either not designed to run or contains an error

I also noticed that your running beta 4, not rc3, might help too.

RC3 came out recently, haven't had any problems. RC4 or Final should be out soon at the rate they are going.

In regards to your problem though, try removing FF, and deleting personal settings/extensions.

    Then try downloading RC3 Here

I just installed the version DarkNovaGundam linked to, and its the same as the version I already have. They are both build #20090624025744. Mozilla's website calls it RC3, the event viewer calls it beta 4. Odd.

I wouldn't suspect stylish over some other extension/plugin, but anyway did you submit a report?. If you want to make sure your xul.dll is ok here are the hashes for it.

    CRC32: 43BF9B4B
    MD5: 75DCEB3846AFE397FD1D956FE314341D
