Adding favorite to IE8 crashes the browser

When I try to add a web page to my favorites in IE8, the browser crashes.

I get a popup saying that Internet Explorer has stopped working, and that Windows can check online for a solution to the problem.

Clicking on Check online for a solution and close the program just makes the same popup come up again.

    We need more details.

    * How long have you had this problem?
    * What security programs are you running?
    * Have you a current System Restore point made?

Note - Browser add-ons, toolbars, malware & restricted sites etc may cause browser crashes.

I suggest you read through the links below.

It's a one week old fresh install. No addons, not even flash player.

    I'm running MS Security Essentials.
    Zone Alarm firewall.
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

    System restore is turned off.

I have some basic settings made above defaults.

    Enable protected mode.
    Delete browsing history on exit.
Do not collect data for use by InPrivate Filtering.
Disable toolbars and extensions when InPrivate Browsing starts.
Everything in auto-complete is turned off.
Reuse windows for launching shortcuts, is turned off.
Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed, is selected.

And I just reset everything, and it's still doing it.

    Has the IE problem been there since the fresh install one week ago?{ or did it develop between then & now.}
Have you used a disk cleaning /registry cleaner in this period?

Did you read through this link ?

Yeah, but that's really all just some basic troubleshooting.

I don't add favorites very often, so I didn't happen to check it until maybe the 5th day of the install.

I'm not running a lot of programs, and all of them have ran fine on this machine with Vista and XP.

    Abiword
    Firefox
    Acronis
    MWSnap
    Silverlight
    Zonealarm
    Skype
    Klite codec pack
    MS Security Essentials.
Foxit Reader with scripting turnded off
And a flashplayer plugin for Firefox only.

The machine doesn't go online until all the windows updates are installed, and Zonealarm and MS Security Essentials is installed.
It scans spotless clean from within the Windows XP drive.

I'll post back here whether they solve it or not.

I've tried this a half dozen times since I last posted, and the service has been down every single time.
