IE8 - moving backwards is so slow

Hi

Previous posts here about IE8 speed complain about general speed problems. My issue is different.

I have a new pc and this is my first time with W7 x64. I am pleased with the speed at which IE8 x64 opens (almost instant), and browsing forwards to new pages is fast too, but when I browse back to a previous page there is an annoying delay of 2-4 seconds. This is especially annoying when I am trying to read an online newspaper and have to keep returning to the front page in order to read the next story!

Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks.

Interestingly, I have just discovered that this problem does not appear when browsing backwards here on this site - it is instant!

If you're already viewing the front page and hit "refresh", does it still take 2-4 seconds to reload? It may be the front page is more complex. Also you may have IE options set to get a new copy of the page each time you visit, which is best for getting the latest updates but may be slower than one of the other choices: Tools/Internet Options/Browsing History/Settings.

roncerr - Sorry for the delay, I've been away from the screen for a bit.

I think you may have something in it being the page complexity. After experimenting, I have realised that the excessive delay does not happen with all pages, just those that I spend most time on, and they happen to be newspaper/magazine front pages.

I'm surprised that a modern pc with all this processing power gets slowed down so much by even a complex website page (how complex can they be for goodness sake!), but there you go.

Many thanks for your insight.

roncerr - I forgot to say that my browser cache is set to automatic, so that shouldn't be the problem.
