IE8 / MSN - emails from FaceBook Shut Down!
My email account is with MSN, and when I get an email from someone on my facebook page, I click to open…
Internet Explorer window pops up IE has stopped working. Close Program
I close the program.
The IE page will restart and the email will still be there.
What’s going on?
Thanks in advance,
Scotty13

Many IE problems can be fixed with a reset: Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Reset
-
Unfortunately that didn’t work. Any more options?

I'm not too familiar with FB "Messages" but it sounds like it's not a program but a way to view email through your browser while you are on Facebook. If so, maybe Facebook is set to keep messages on its server rather than delete them from the server as a pop3 email program would. Have you tried looking at similar messages from another computer or with another browser?
As far as IE "having to close..." is concerned, that happens at times depending on the web page, the state of IE, and the state of your PC. It should not happen very often. Are you saying it only happens when viewing email on Facebook addressed to your MSN account (name@msn.com) but emails addressed to your account someplace else (name@hotmail.com or name@gmail.com) behave differently?

Yes, it only happens when I try to open from IE. Google Chrome or Firefox, no problem. Should I download IE9?

Is your system up to date per Windows Update? Are you running Windows 7? Have you already got SP1?

Everything is up to date. Windows 7 Home and SP1.

I don't understand why IE8 (after a reset) doesn't work right but other browsers do, so I feel uncomfortable saying IE9 may help. But your system seems to be ready for IE9. Before doing that you may want to try some system maintenance like:
1) sfc /scannow (from a command prompt window)
2) c:\ (properties window) Disk Clean-up and Tools/Error checking
