    IE9 Downloads

Every time IE 9 finishes a download the screen keeps comming to the front of whatever else I am doing. It does not seem to matter if I have the download manager open or closed. I do not have my downloads set to notify me upon completion either. This is becoming incredibly annoying as it will pull me away from what I am working on. Is there no way to prevent it from doing this upon completion of a download?

    Thanks,

    Kyle

I have the following annoyances with downloads in IE9.

1 - nearly every download is not on a whitelist or blacklist so I get the "this is not commonly downloaded" warning and as such I then have to jump through hoops to run the file. There is no button to either add the domain to a local whitelist or submit "this file is safe" to microsoft.
I tried to untick check signatures on downloaded programs option, makes no difference so not even sure what that option does. What does help is disabling smart screen filter on the entire browser. Although I prefer to have it on to check websites I browse. In addition the smartscreen filter is down now and seems to be down a lot, if I manually check a website it says unavailable, however downloads do sucessfully check but take ages.
2 - the save/save as options, seems awkward to use, save been the forced default and the the prompt always appears at the bottom. What is bizarre is one site with download links brings up a prompt that feels more traditional, a window with save or save as to pick from but only one site does it. site that hosts a dodgy tool called tweakIE9 (dont use it is way too buggy). http://www.itknowledge24.com/tweakie9.zip
3 - when is completed like your complaint I get the same bar at the bottom, it also still appears if disabling the prompt when downloaded. What I want is like IE8, a download box that is in the background that I see the progress on the taskbar for the download and it alerts me when completed, all this in the background.

IE9 has some severe useability downgrades sadly.

What I really hate about IE9's download manager is that it won't resume a lot of paused downloads. Many download operations that are paused or paused due to sudden closing of IE will not resume but will start downloading from the start all over again. Using a third party download manager on IE9 would be better. Even Firefox's own lightweight download manager is better for me in handling paused downloads and in simplicity in general.

Whenever I get the message 'not commonly downloaded' I ignore it and just shut down the notification bar.

Thank you about the info re tweakie9.

For now I am living with the annoyance or I just open the save-to folder.

seems the option of disabling the notification when complete does work sorry, to set it open the download manager. Select options at bottom and there is the option to toggle the setting.

The problem is that it has not made a difference to me for the last few days.

I have reported the problem in the Partner newsgroups to MS.

yeah there is still serious useability issues even with that option set and a good default download dir.

I would add 2 new options.

The ability to whitelist downloads, disable neutral download warnings.
Disable download manager so revert to IE8 download behaviour.

Today the problem has disappeared. I do not know what changed. I did a reboot yesterday and was still able to replicate the problem. I will monitor and see if it returns.
