Just one thing to mention. Unless you run the text editor as Administrator, Windows will not allow you to save the Hosts file directly to where it needs to go. You can either Right Click>Run as Administrator your text editor of choice, and then open it and edit, or you can save to a non restricted area (Like Documents) and copy over, acknowledging the UAC prompts when they appear.

Mike I went to the anonymouse website and entered the Youtube link - YouTube - [Shanghai World Expo Closing Ceremony Concert 720HD] 04 - Fusion of Art and Music - but it went to a black screen with a small advertising.

Jimmy, I have cleaned out all temp files. I use Vopt for keeping my machine clean. Thanks for the input.

We seem to be a little out of sync.

No worries. Your problem is being caused by the entries in the hosts file. Once you delete those entries you will have access again.

Mike - you are the Man of the Hour - thank you so much.
I can now enter Youtube perfectly.
    I am deeply grateful.
This is an area I have never been into and so hope that I need not go there again but
just in case, have saved your information.

Also, thank you to all that offered their help.

in my windows/system32/drivers/ect directory, i have two hosts (one just hosts, the other hosts.sys) in the folder because i cannot delete or even edit the hosts file which extension is no visible as it is read-only format. Because of this i still cannot connect to youtube (or google). I am the admin on the pc, with 3 other standard accounts. Am i doing something wrong?
