How Long Does the IE9 Update Typically Take?

I am doing this through Windows Update on a new HP dv7-4270 laptop...all current updates installed except IE9.
Started over an hour ago, and nothing's going on in the Win Update box. No green bar, no animation of any sort. Just says "Installing Update 1 of 1."
Should I just stop the install and try again?
    Thanks in advance.

Just noticed...the Stop Installation bar is greyed out. So...what do I do about that?

Not normal time limit. The installation of IE9 usually gives an extra dialog box that pops up in the taskbar that asks for extra confirmation, but doesn't necessarily popup on top of other windows, in the foreground. This can be distracting to the point of one not noticing it at first sometimes. Did you click on the notification and allow the installation prompt? Is so, might try all over again.

Hello jbear and welcome to Seven Forums.

Follow the instructions in this Microsoft article on how to uninstall IE9. I suggest this just to make sure you don't have anything showing in Control Panel > Programs and Features > View Installed Updates which could indicate a partial, but failed, installation. Once you've done that, then go ahead and follow the instructions on how to install.

How do I install or uninstall Internet Explorer 9?

Additionally, to help prevent a corrupted download when you do your re-install, be sure that nothing is actively running on your system, and all of your other apps, programs and windows are closed.

I hate microsoft's policy of pop-unders like ie8 and ie9. It just sits there and if you neglect to look at the task bar, you think it is just taking a long time. It is, until you notice the taskbar waiting for your input. Unskilled users will think their machine is locked up when all it takes is noticing the task bar. Damn...

I've been caught out by IE9's taskbar a couple of times and I'm of the mind to uninstall it and go back to IE8 or even try Google Chrome or Safari.

How do you others feel about it?
