Internet Explorer 9 and Windows 7

I have been using Internet Explorer 9 successfully for many months on my Windows 7 system.
Suddenly I could no longer access it. I also have FireFox 4 and Chrome 11, both of which work fine. I need IE9 for downloading classical music (Classics Online).
I still had a desktop icon but when clicking it nothing happened. I uninstalled IE 9 via 'Installed Updates' and re-installed a fresh download successfully, except I no have no icon on the desktop and, when going to the list (via 'start') and click IE nothing happens.
I have an HP Compaq 500B MT.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

    Tony.
    Just checking....
After uninstalling IE did you then -
    * Restart (to finish the process of uninstalling Internet Explorer 9, and restore the previous version of Internet Explorer).

Then on completion of the install -
    * Restart (to finish the installation process, so you can use Internet Explorer 9 immediately).

How do I install or uninstall Internet Explorer 9?

    IE9 and W7

    Hi,
I did restart every time Windows instructed me to.
After uninstalling IE 9 I did NOT install the previous version. I installed a freshly downloaded version of IE 9.
I have an icon on the desktop now and it looks for iexplorer.exe , but apparently cannot find it.

Click on Computer from the start menu, then click on Local Disk C:
Now click on Program Files and scroll down to Internet Explorer folder. Open it and right click on the icon, choose properties. Click the Details tab. What product and version is it showing?

Thanks for the response. I checked version:- 9.0.8112.16421.
    I hope this helps.
I was wondering something else.I was surprised to see that I E 9 is regarded as an update, Does this mean that when I uninstall - this update - I should get back to IE*?

I spent over an hour with HP on the line, and then over an hour and a half with Microsoft, who took over my PC by remote control. We uninstalled IE9 (update) and, Microsoft claimed, re-installed IE8. Unfortunately nothing has changes and MS has given up.
So, it would seem, I now have IE8 installed, but cannot access it.

If you right click the icon in Program Files, and select to open or run as Administrator, what happens?

Check your firewall. Consider ditching your current firewall and installing another. I recently had to switch from PCTools excellent firewall to another less desirable firewall because PCT disabled IE9.
