WLM cannot / will not work

Trying to set uo my son's partners machine with WLM - have done all the "paperwork" and it just keeps asking me for the username and password - it will not go straight into WLM. Am getting so frustrated as she doesn't email a great deal and only has one of those hotmail accounts.

Unforunately she is very hard to get onto and so I thought I would set it up with a tasskbar icon and all would be hunky dory HA HA Windows!!

All I get are these errors messages and the logon thing. The machine I have just added some RAM to cleaned it out -stuffed full of bloat and junk ware and its' flying.

It is a Compaq Presario CQ60 with AMD Sempron single core SI-42 2.1 Ghz 4 RAM running Vista SP2 HP BIOS F.3 and integrated graphics.

Hav tried setting up Thunderbird etc etc
Can someone please help me before I go potty(er)

    Found this post:
    Bigpond
Use your email address as the username, and mail.bigpond.com as the POP and SMTP server. Don't check the secure connection or secure authentication checkboxes. Creating accounts in Thunderbird for popular email providers - MozillaZine Knowledge Base

The account settings for WLM should be the same since they depend on the email service provider, not the program.

    Ok Ron

Ok mate but it's my lad's partner that I am trying to set one up with and I know she has a hotmail account but I'm buggered if I can find it on her machine hence trying to create a WLM account - reckon Windows should get an award for this piece of errrr niceware

But I've got to do something pretty soon as I put on Kaspersky 2011 and want to get an activation for the app as I've already paid for the disk and they send the activation by - yep email!!

Have you set up the Hotmail account within the Windows Live Mail client? I think it's one of the easier types to set up, only needing a login name and password, which should be the same as the sign-in for Hotmail on the web.

    Ron

Ok mate I'll trythat at the moment I am rapidly losing patience with trying to set up what should be just an ordinary service and it is turning into a nightmare.

Not simply because I cannot get anything to work but also my son's partner is just not calling back -if h=she did then I could just get where she keeps her hot mail account because I've searched and "searched" with no luck.

But it it still makes WLM a bit of a bloody (scuse French) joke the really have the lot of us by the you know whats - thats how errrrrrr upset I am.

But look you've been a great help (and always have) and I do appreciate your input and knowledge.
    Sincerely
    John

Works more or less like any other window in Windows. First, make sure it is not maximized (use middle button in upper right). If it is not maximized, but just big, it should be possible to do the double-headed-arrow thing form the left or right side. If you can't also do the double-headed-arrow thing at the bottom, just touch the mouse at the top and slide the whole window up as far as possible. Now you should be able to get to the bottom of the window so that the double-headed-arrow will work. At least that's what I noticed in my version of WLM (2009).
