So is Flashplayer the Add-on that would not run with IE? If so that is odd because I have Adobe Flash player 10 Activex that runs perfectly with all other IE websites.
Activex = IE browser and IE based browsers only.
You will need to download Flash Player for Firefox.

Hello Wallonn7. Yes when I went to Ancestry with Firefox I was invited to download Flashplayer. There was no problem and it works perfectly. The problem is that Ancestry in IE tells me that an Add-on will not download. I now know that the Add-on is Flashplayer and advert boxes remain blank although I already have Flashplayer on my computer and all othe IE websites work perfectly. Ancestry now tell me that it is a Microsoft problem which is complete and utter nonsense.

I am now wondering if this is a Java problem. I see from my Virgin Homepage that an advert is missing with IE9 that is there in Firefox. See attachments.

In Currently Loaded Add-ons in IE9 I have a Java Plug-in but is this what I need for IE9? Whilst in all Add-ons thare are several Java Plug-ins some appearing three times. Should any of these appear in Currently loaded Add-ons. See attachments.

    Any help please.

I think I have solved the problem. SpywareBlaster was blocking the adverts and stopping the Add-on. I have disabled SpywareBlaster and all seems to be well. All I have to do now is decide which of the 14393 entries in SpywareBlaster is causing the problem.

    Thanks for all your input.

You're welcome, good luck with the SpywareBlaster search.

I just tried a search on the web and ran across your posts in the Ancestry forum.

Yes, it was in the Ancestry site that the problem first occurred so I started with RootsChat. I now have to apologize for blaming Ancestry for all this!!!

Thanks for your support. I'm getting too old for this.
