I can't open https (secure website) after IE 9 install.

I have installed IE 9 and reverted back to IE 8 at least 4 times - as I cannot open https:// sites such as www.chase.com. I am running 64 Bit Win 7 Professional on HP dv5-1125nr 64bit AMD machine that has 6GB of RAM and a partioned HD with lots of room. I have installed IE 9 and it displays most pages just fine, seems to be quicker as well. Just to be sure that there was no lingering effects I have reinstalled Windows, reinstalled all drivers, with the latest drivers available. During that process, with IE8 installed, I had quite a lot of problems getting Acrobat Reader, Adobe flash 64-bit, Adobe Flash 32 bit and Shockwave to download and install correctly. I even had trouble downloading those applications - What's up with that??(side issue?). I have read here and on the web and found indication that all of these last mentioned programs could contribute to IE 9 not working correctly. I have a large swap file, and sufficent Video. I am looking for any and all suggestions. I am running out of ideas and places to research this issue. Thanks to all for any suggestions.

    Try this:

    Open IE9.
On the menu bar go to Tools >Options >Advanced.
Scroll down to Security, and make sure "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" is unchecked.

If you have any add-ons try running IE9 with add-ons disabled.

    About the Adobe problems:
Why doesn't Adobe Flash work in Internet Explorer?

Are all your Adobe products up to date?
Adobe reports “issues” with Flash 10.3 and IE9 | Ed Bott

Just tells the version: Adobe - Flash Player

Will tell version, and explain how to update:Find Flash Player version

The only tester I found to test Reader (PDF Files) is here at a Penn State University site: https://courses.worldcampus.psu.edu/...s/Acrobat.html

And if you have Java: Verify Java Version

What version of IE9 are you using, 32 or 64bit? if it is 64 try the 32bit flavor, and vice versa.

Response to cannot open https//: sites in IE9

Thank You Anak. When I unchecked "Do not save encrypted pages to disk", IE 9 now works good. It displayed https//:www.chase.com after I logged in with my login / password. Thanks again. I have the latest Adobe Reader, Flash and I checked my install of Java. All are good.

I had the same problem, but the suggestions above did not work for me...
What worked for me was the following: under "Tools" go to "Compatability View Settings", then choose "Display all websites in Compatability View".

Isn't displaying pages in compatibility the same as using the previous version of IE? From MS:

websites will be displayed as if you were viewing them in a previous version of Internet Explorer, which will often correct display problems.

The layout will be IE9 but the functionality will be IE8. For a few sites ok but for all?

Hi bru, maybe this will explain it better: Internet Explorer Compatibility View - Turn On or Off

You will only see the broken page icon in the address bar if IE9 senses a compatibility problem. Then it is up to you to make the choice if you want to run it in compatibility mode or not.

Take note that you can change the settings as shown in option three of the tutorial.

    Thanks Anak.

If I understand querido he has ticked "Display all websites in Compatibility View". Seems to me that would defeat the purpose of using IE9.

I understand that some websites may need to be viewed in Compatibility View but if one needs to view all sites that way to solve a problem (in this case viewing secure sites) it seems something is not right with the browser. I may be wrong.
