How to assign hotmail as default mail instead of WinLive?

I have found the methods to uninstall and remove Windows Live Mail, but I want to ensure my Hotmail becomes the default email app.

I have tried to assign mail to Hotmail, but the only option is WLM.

My problem is clicking an email link and WLM automatically opens. [eventually]

I want my Hotmail to open, but have never figured out how.

Hotmail is a Web base App. and not a program. Your only options are an Email program i.e. WLM or Thunderbird etc.

    This is possible actually.

If you go into Internet Explorer, whatever version you are running.

Once loaded go to the tools menu at the top, on the pop up window go to programs and under email, click the drop down menu and choose windows live hotmail.

Now when you click on an email, it will automatically take you to the hotmail website to sign in and then once signed in (Or if you are already signed in) it will automatically go straight to an empty email ready for your input.

    Hope this helps.

    Lucky

EDIT:: Once you have set this in Internet Explorer, it will work with all internet browsers from then on.

BUT you can only set this in Internet Explorer then it will work for all other internet browsers

Alas, it appears you are correct. I tried all the methods listed here [and other places] and they begin good, but there is never a way to select hotmail, yahoo, or any web based mail. I really have huge problems with WLM, and it seems there is no way around it, other than having no email program. I might even try that.

I have this one in my " library "..... how to set Windows Live Hotmail as default. But it is for Vista.
No idea if it can be applied to Winows 7.

Register Windows Live Hotmail with the Default Programs tool in Windows Vista

I think I heard somewhere that that Vista trick does not work but I can't remember where I read that. I found an interesting post here but I haven't tried it: How to Register Hotmail As Default Email in Windows 7 (NOTE: - Microsoft Answers

"The answer is alot easier than people think, but for some reason microsoft will not show people howto do this.
    Type in Start, Run:
regsvr32 "%Programfiles%\Internet Explorer\HMMAPI.DLL and hit OK. Your good to go."
