Actually for died in the wool must have FF user portable into ramdisk is fairly easy to set up. Instead of the "save the image on shutdown" approach just abandon the ramdisk on shutdown. On startup, do an XCopy from the portable folder into the ramdisk.

Only fly in the ointment if you want to make changes you have to remember to run from the HD folder so the updates will "stick". Other than that it's pretty painless. I just don't have need for it now. I do miss SyncPlaces. I guess there's always at least one FF AddOn that should be ported to the other browser but isn't. :)

heres a real doozy for you. i had ff 5 and did the compatibility tricks and upgraded to 6, every add on and extension worked fine . i cocked something up a bit later with wmp and had to roll back ,something went bonkers with ff after that. i tried to find a setup exe of firefox 5 and i cant get hold of it after searching all over the internet , unfortuneately i didnt have a copy saved ,it was an upgrade.
so i had to install ff4 (which i did have saved!) got my extensions and addons working .did the compatability tricks and upgraded now about half my addons wont work even though i had them working with ff6 earlier.

can someone upload a copy of ff5 setup please or link me if you can find a copy., i hate not having my homepage tab addon not working and stylish wont work ( another wind up as i like dark google)
    thanks.

I have new tab homepage working just fine using Aurora FF7.0a2 here with an edit.

You'll like this one - looks like they'll bring back URL customizing in the new tab in Firefox 9. "New Tab Page". No more need for that addon. Be nice if it follows through to the release of it.

If Filehippo lists it, it has older versions always.

And when things look the same, and feel the same, how wrong it would be to call it a minor update! March onwards in the name of major updates with little change!
