User interface is better than when I last checked it out but its still very cluttered big thick tool bars very clunky side panel with hardly any options. The UI is not very customizable obviously got most of their ideas from the Opera browser which is far better.
The Mouse gestures work OK & the Speed Dial is not a bad implementation but the One Note feature is terrible if you want to see how Notes should be done check out the Opera browser.
Regarding Speed it scored a respectable 12,500 compared to Chrome's 15,600 & Opera's 17,000
Sunspider JavaScript benchmark it was slow with 269.4ms compared to Opera's 167.5ms I didn't test IE9 & Chrome as I know they are both a little faster than Opera on Sunspider.
I am a long time user of maxthon (from the days of MyIE2) and presently using M2.5.18.1000 (the last of the M2s). I haven't gone to M3 because it is nowhere as good as M2. I'm only wirting this because the above description of M3's "failures" may cause others not to try M2. M2 may not the fastest or theoretically the safest of the safest browsers (because of its association with IE), but I will tell you this:
1. Never ever had a hacking/virus/trojan problem with M2. Yes, I do use several spyware/antivirus apps.
2. I believe that there is no other browser that can be tweaked/customized as well as M2. Its interface is unbelievable and it is a lot of fun to use because of all the things you can do with it.
3. My only problem with it is that it seems that M2's further development has given way to the development of M3. Thus some bugs and stuff apparently aren't going to be fixed. Of these the only problem I have is that the version I am using does crash more than the previous versions. This can be annoying at times, the fun and utility factors far out-weigh the occasional crashes.
If millisconds of speed differences don't matter to you, but you would like to try a real fun browser, give M2 a try.

this gave me a chuckle as well - I don't know what version of Maxthon/Firefox these people are using but right now my impression of Maxthon is less than how I feel about IE and Safari.

i can get to Maxthon's addon page faster with every other browser but Maxthon - go figure

I've installed it & it it's better than 3 but even if you combined the best bits of each I'd still rate it worse than Opera & Firefox for ability to customize.
Opera has even more options in a much sleeker interface with the ability to have
tool bars on the top bottom or sides of the screen.
With Opera I can mix tool bars for example if i had a netbook I would combine the Status bar with the Address bar to gain extra screen space.
The Panels in Opera are much better than what Maxthon offers with Opera I can add any page to Panels.
Its a long list of features built into Opera that Maxthon lacks .
Maxthon 2 is not a bad browser I quite like what it has maybe in a couple of years it will mature into a good browser its one to keep an eye on China has huge resources & plenty of talent.
