Windows 7: Search message text Windows Live Mail 2011

The odd thing is that I went into the WLM storage folders and in folder options included them in indexed items. So now at least I can search WLM folders through Windows Explorer. This is cumbersome, though. I'd prefer to be able to search my WLM folders in WLM, which is the crux of this problem.

I tried applying the solution from the other thread. Services.msc reports that the indexing service status is "started" with "automatic" startup type. Windows search service shows a blank status with "automatic" startup type.

In the Windows search properties (see png), when I try to start the service, it starts momentarily and then stops with the boxed warning (see png). Is this normal behavior?

I also cannot get indexing to start (2nd png), even though services.msc reports that it is started.

I tried a repair install of WLM 2011 to no avail, and chkdsk reports everything is OK.

I'm completely stumped. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get these two services working normally?

Thanks.

Try "Troubleshoot Search and Indexing" to fix "Windows Search". I don't know if that is important to get WLM's "find" dialog box working normally. Try, at a command prompt, to type in "sfc /scannow". If that doesn't fix it you could do a complete uninstall of the Mail part of "Windows Live Essentials" and then reinstall it.

Thanks, roncerr. SFC reports no integrity violations. I'll try the complete uninstall. But I think this problem goes beyond WLM. I think it's a Windows issue.

Do you know if there is a registry change I can make to put Windows search and indexing back to their default states?

For default mail search, check the indexing options an make sure the "users" folder is included along with the sub-folder "app data" since that is where Windows Live Mail keeps it's message store. You can also select "rebuild" within indexing options. But keep in mind that I purposely unchecked that folder because I do not want email to show up in normal search. That did not change the operation of the "find" feature of WLM which I use all the time.

roncerr: I can't get to the indexing options I need (see png in previous post). I think this problem is actually a Windows issue, not WLM anymore. I'll repost this problem in the General Discussion Forum. Thanks.
