Deleting in Inbox also deletes in Storage folders.

After moving an email to my 'saved stuff' folder within the Storage folder, I delete the original item within the Inbox.

I find that the saved item has also vanished.

This has happened over 6 times. I keep restoring the item by sending it to myself again from another source.

I've been assuming that an item in the Inbox that is also in the Storage folder area would result in having two emails on my machine. Is this wrong? Is one a shortcut?

If anyone knows of a meaningful explanation of the Folders and theory, please post it.

I'm using the 2009 version, but 2011 should work the same: When I move a message from any pop3 account folder to a storage folder, it just moves and there is no need to delete it from the source pop3 folder. You could try a repair of Windows Live Essentials via Programs and Features. It sure sounds like something is wrong.

have you tried "moving" the message from inbox to the storage folder. if you do that, you will not have two emails on your machine. which email client at you using btw?
Thank you for your response. Yes. I again 'moved' your email to the Save Stuff folder. It did not move it in the usual manner - the name appears in both folders. I then deleted it from the Inbox and it was no longer in the Save Stuff folder. My email is WIndows Live Mail, v 2009 build 14.0.8089.0726. This is a new Dell, 3 weeks old and automatic updating is enabled. Nonetheless, I did as you suggested and forced an update to Windows Live - and things were updated, including Mail. Again, I selected an email, Moved it to Save Stuff. It did not leave the Inbox, was also in Save Stuff and when I deleted it from the Inbox it also disappeared from Save Stuff.

Perhaps the major problem is that I've been using the Quick Views to real emails from 6+ accounts. From there, I delete or Move emails. I can't find explanation of Quick Views so I may be mis-using, but if I have to go to each discrete email account to Move an email, it's very work intensive.

Somehow I knew that Quick Views would create more problems than it solved so I've never used that feature and can't say if that is the source of your problem. What I've done to get around the missing feature of a unified inbox (which was present in Outlook Express and Vista's Windows Mail) is to forward mail from several accounts to one main account that I set up in WLM. Of course that means that all mail you send will appear to come from that address, unless you leave the other accounts in WLM; then they will be available in the dropdown list for sending but you have to think about it everytime you send.

Another solution, just for moving messages around, is to use message rules to automatically sort. (You can sort by "from" "to" "account" and other things so that you would rarely have to move messages manually.)

BTW, I never suggested upgrading from 2009 to 2011. Before doing that I would have suggested doing a repair of Windows Live Essentials via Programs and Features. That may still be advisable since WLM 2011 has at least one bug having to do with Junk mail filtering that requires the repair.

Thanks. If I can't use Quick Views to manage, I would have to do the same things for each of my6-12 email accounts depending upon how many I continue to use. Just too slow. I also had a great deal of trouble with Live Help. A click on the program takes me to the Hotmail site and finding a help hyperlink is slow and takes multiple clicks.
I bailed out, installed Thunderbird, imported Outlook Express settings, contacts and old mail within 1 1/2 hours. Live is just now wrapped well.
