Usually it's the browser is not letting the site save cookies, or it's cleaning off cookies on closing.

    How to control cookies

I don't use IE but Chromium has various settings to save cookies for session only or let them save permanently. Letting them just save seems to get a lot of tracking cookies. What I do is set to save for session only, then white list the sites I visit all the time. I use LastPass to AutoLogin to the rest.

    John,
When you say it doesn't remember, then do yo mean that if you go to a website where you must sign in and you sign in, then you close that tab but you still leave IE 8 open. Now go back immediately to the site. Is your password, etc remembered?

Or do you maybe mean than you open IE 8, sign into a website, close IE 8, Open IE 8 again, go back to the website, do you have to reenter everything again?

Or do mean that you'v opened IE 8 , signed in, closed IE 8, ReStarted your computer and then have to reenter everything?

I open IE8, sign into website, close IE8, open IE8 arain, go back to the web site, I then have to re-enter every thing. I use My MSN as my home page on opening IE8 and I have to sign in every time I log on. This did not happen when I used Windows XP.

    Thank you John.

That looks an IE 8 setting problem.

I do not use IE n unless forced to by some of the other Microsoft software.

I ask all of you IE users to point out the correct setting, although my guess is that if simply set everything in IE back to default settings then the problem will be gone.
