IE 9 problems & frustrations

I am growing more and more frustrated with IE9, both from the standpoint of browsing and from the standpoint of managing websites myself. Issues encountered with IE9, but not with IE8 or Firefox on the very same site include:

1. The way beyond annoying "net-nanny" requirement to use the control key when clicking on some harmless links in well trusted websites.

2. Having the linked page then show up underneath the page I was viewing instead of on top of it as I would expect and desire (and where every other browser puts it).

3. Having linked pdf files show up as just white space, pdfs that work flawlesssly with other browsers. (And that happens with some major sites too, i.e., Chase Bank, not just small "mom and pop" sites.)

4. Scripts that won't run (although they work fine with every other browser), and which IE9 does not inform you have been blocked or give you the option of running.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm not sure what you want exactly...? A few thoughts, though:

1. Hmm, actually haven't encountered this. Maybe you could add the websites in question to your trusted zone, though.

2. Not experienced this either. You can set IE9 to open new pages in tabs instead of windows, that might help.

3. Unlike other browsers, IE9 will use ActiveX-based plugins. Maybe the plugin that comes with your PDF reader is not registered correctly or not working right.

4. What kind of scripts?

Comment: What I am trying to find out is why IE9 is exhibiting these behaviors--which appear to be attributable to some changes unique to IE9 inasmuch as they do not occur with any other browser or earlier IE versions. The interest is not only because I find them annoying during my own browsing, but because I would like to, if possible, to eleminate them from sites I manage so that viewers will not experience the same frustrations. Comment: It would not seem to be a site issue, but a randon link issue. That is, the requirement to press Control+Click seems to show up randomly on some links within some sites, but not others. And again this happens only when I am using IE 9. I will try to remember to post a sample or two as I come across them.

Comment: I am using the most current version of Acrobat Reader and the most current full version of Acrobat. Both are regularly updated. And again they work exactly as they should with every other browser, so there is something going on unique to IE9.

4. What kind of scripts?

Comment: Difficult to say, but my guess would be Java as they are the most common. Again things that work smoothly with every other browser.
