    IE9 Says I Am Running IE7?

    I ran a tool from MS that checks your browser for security. After I ran it, it states I am running IE7. I have even noticed that sometimes I get these little banners at the top on msn.com that states I need to upgrade to IE9. I don't get it. I know I am running IE9. BTW, my security score was a 1 out of 5.

    Here is the site from MS.

    * Go to > IE > Help > About Internet Explorer > What does it say?
    {I believe IE7 is still used on Vista & XP. Your specs say you are using Win 7 Ultimate.}

    *What Security programs are you using?

    Could be that you are using Compatibility mode for all sites and that this is why the score?

    As a test I added the site to my compatibility view list but it still says I'm running IE8, which I am.

    The About states I am running IE9 as it should. I did check and my CM was set to ALL, so I changed that back. The test still says I am running 7. How are you guys scores coming out?

    I would guess that IE=4, Chrome=2.5 and FF=2 for the latest version of each browser simply because it looks more like a marketing gimmick than a "test".

    Regarding the browser version, it might be interesting to get the opinion of another website: http://www.thedance.net/browser/

    The BEST test of all re Browser Security is YOU & your hand that controls the mouse.

    If you click on Tools and F12 developer tools what does it say at the top - should be Browser Mode:IE9 and Document Mode:IE9 standards. My browser was rated as 1 before I removed the Compatibilty Mode but perhaps it was something else and I had the second value not set properly - can't remember exactly.

    The site does not test anything it just uses browser sniffing to check what browser you are using, it would have been a lot easier to just post a chart.
    When I visit the site with Opera it scores 0 but if I edit the site preferences & Mask as IE & reload Opera scores 4 out of 4
