Live messenger2011/i am not receiving new email notifications!

I am running on Windows 7, 64 bit. Windows Live Messenger is installed as well as Windows Live Mail. I get my email through Hotmail. Sign in starts as it should with a pop up of how many emails I have in the right hand corner of the taskbar. If I am off of the internet, even if I minimize hotmail & live mesenger, I do not receive the pop-up notification of new email. Dell techs have told me the new live messenger does not send new email notifications unless you are on the internet!!! I need help to solve this problem, a possible work around would be great. Thanks!

Hello Jmgbook, welcome to the Seven Forums.

I am not sure if I understand you correctly. One thing is for sure: There is absolutely no way you can get new mail notifications if you are not connected to Internet. Not with Windows Live Mail, not with any other mail client.

WLM notifies you of new mails by showing it on the notification area. Here's WLM icon on notification area when there's no new mail:

And here when new mail has arrived:

    No hotmail notifications

Hi and thank you for your reply. I am connected to the internet at all times and I do not use Windows Live Mail for email, I use Hotmail. I cannot receive email notifications unless I am on the internet at the time, even if I log on to the internet and messenger and then minimize them to the taskbar. Help!
