J.P.
I have been quietly following your thread in the off chance your expectations were fulfilled. So far no such luck. My only reason for ditching WLM 2011 was having to multi click to perform a task that could be done in 2009 in 1 or 2 clicks. Other than that everything worked.

If none shows to be effective, I will follow Roderunner and move back to 2009 Moel Year (so to speak).
If I were having so much trouble trying to install a Microsoft program intended to be used on Windows 7, I would seriously consider doing a clean install of Windows 7. I would do that even if I intended to uninstall (or never install) the program rather than use it. As much as I prefer the 2009 version over 2011 for Mail, I also want to know that my Windows 7 Operating System is in good shape.

I tend to re install Windows frequently, more for something to do as opposed to fixing things. Once all updates have been done, I install DirectX, if it fails to install I start again as I have found it can cause trouble if not done.

I don't recall having to install DirectX with Windows 7. Are you talking about Windows 7 or Windows 98?

That was my point. It's a component of Windows 7, so you would only be installing an update. But since it's an update to a built-in component, wouldn't Windows Update take care of the updates as well? According to your link to DirectX: "Updating the DirectX Runtime is achieved by installing the latest Service Pack or obtaining a newer version of Windows."

After re-reading your original post, it sounds like you meant that you just did the DirectX update separately from the other Windows Updates. If so, I would be inclined to do it the same way. I just haven't noticed it lately. Perhaps I got it via SP1.

Hi roncerr, have you a copy of the Tweaking Companion, it has a lot more info than I can quote TweakGuides.com - The TweakGuides Tweaking Companion

Since no other suggestion was presented, I am closing this item.
Thanks for all hints and support.
I am back with WLE 2009.
No issues so far.
