    Download Time-Outs

    Seems to be a common problem for which I haven't found an answer to yet - download timeouts.

    1) Usually on large files over 150-200Mb or greater.
    2) On servers with single connection only and resume is not available.
    3) Common problem with all my browsers, Firefox, IE, Chrome and Safari.
    4) This problem only effects downloads to my PC, downloads to my iPad2, PS3 and Sky box via WiFi are all OK, recently did a 1Gb update on my PS3 without ant problems.

    There is a setting deep in the bowels of my Win7 which I don't where to find or how to fix.
    Any ideas?

    This utility can tweak your TCP settings. I'd make a restore point first in case it makes things worse. But I've used it over the years and the results seemed either no change or improved. Hasn't hosed me yet:

    SpeedGuide.net :: TCP Optimizer / Downloads

    Also you might try Free Download Manager. You can drag and drop a link onto the target without doing the whole "browser integration" bit. It may help with keeping the connection alive even if it can't use multiple connections.

    Thanks for the tip, I did in fact find FlashGet shortly after making my original post and it works! I have tried many download managers and this is the only one to solve my problem. I've been trying to download a 260Mb file for days now and finally I've got it.

    Thanks for the help,

    Mike
