How do you recover lost e-mails in Windows Live Mail?

I installed windows live mail on an XP machine 2 months ago, when my bridged version of Win-7 crashed for the 3rd time, and all the mail I had on the crashed Win-7 machine showed up on the XP machine.
I had to delete hundreds of unwanted mail. I have done this 4 times, one each for 2 crashed Win-7 upgrade installs, and on the XP.
Today, I set up my new win-7 machine, and installed Windows Live Mail. It only collected today's e-mails, and nothing else.
I thought Live Mail held messages for 30 days (back-up). How do I get to them?

What type of email account is the WLM program set up to access: POP3, IMAP, or HTTP?

    POP3.
When I set up live mail, on the other two computers, I left the "Delivery" box checked in (Accounts/Properties/Advanced); to "Leave a copy on the server", because it was advertized as a 30-day back-up plan.
It flooded my in-box with a ton of old mail each other time I set it up . . . just not this time. I feel cheated.
I guess I'll have to set up the old PC, and save all the important mail, if it still shows up. I never saved any mail in documents or external drives.
