Firefox 8.0.1 Deleted from Mozilla Servers

Quote:
There is a reason Mozilla announces the release of a product days after uploading it to their servers. And that reason is that testing is still performed and that finding a serious issue would force the company from shipping the product to end-users (these can be viewed as release candidates).

And this is exactly what happened in the case of Firefox 8.0.1. The build was available for download from Mozilla’s FTP up until today, when it was deleted because of RoboForm-related issues.

One of the problems the development team was working in order to ready a Firefox 8.1.0 update was gathering information for blocklisting RoboForm DLL. It looks like trouble ran much deeper than that and a second build is now required.

You can still download the initial Firefox 8.0.1 release and it should not cause any trouble as long as you don’t mix RoboForm in.

It's better not to use Firefox.

Sorry if I'm being ignorant - but what does RoboForm do that Firefox doesn't? AFAIK it's for storing passwords and form entries, right?

Go to Tools> Options> Security> Show Passwords. And there you have all the passwords that you ever asked Firefox to remember for you. Anyone can do this. Roboform password protects and encrypts your passwords. RoboForm Data is secured with military-grade AES 256 encryption, with additional security options available. It's really more than a password manager, and can be used across browsers (IE, Opera, Chrome).

Thanks for the link A Guy, that was insightful. I know about viewing passwords in Firefox, in fact I rely on this if I ever need a password that won't auto-fill and I've forgotten what it is.

Since my whole system is encrypted with TrueCrypt, I'm not worried about encrypting browser passwords separately either, but I can definitely appreciate the capabilities of RoboForm.

Think it's a matter of what you are used to/like. Tried Last Pass a couple of times. Just didn't get it, and saw no advantage, so went back to Roboform. A Guy

Probably saw no advantage over Roboform cause it does the same thing, only it does what Roboform does for free.
