I read an article yesterday that said Firefox may soon be a thing of the past. To me this would be a disaster. I use Firefox almost exclusively.

Firefox has an add-on that allows me download videos (movie trailers, tutorials, etc). As far as I know IE 9 does not have anything like this.

Is there any other browser that enables the download of videos or is there an addon for IE that I can use?

Thanks for any advice !!

where did you see that? might be wishful thinking propaganda by a rival browser? certainly nothing on the mozilla user forum that i can find. you might want to try posting there & see what response you get. should be interesting.

I've read a couple of stories about that over the last day or two.

One of them said that Mozilla wanted to concentrate their efforts on a mobile version because of the upsurge of people using smartphones and tablets.

Personally, I gave up on Firfox some time ago and switched to Chrome for a while. With the advent of IE9 I've gone back to that and am finding it excellent.

Not as fast as it should be......
The rumor of FF's death is based I think on Google lessening of their support, if what I read is true. At the same time, I read that Microsoft is considering supporting FF in some way. I don't think FF is going any where, and is running neck and neck with Chrome and presently in the lead.

I use it too, and wouldn't want it to disappear. There is another option, too....The Pale Moon Project homepage

There's a tool for it that will copy your Firefox setup, so all your bookmarks and add-ons will be present too. With my dual-monitor setup, I often have FF on one monitor and Palemoon on the other.:geek:

My take Ed Bott is an idiot spreading FUD with no real basis. Any contract that has a fixed term will come up for renewal.
Sure its possible Google could refuse to renew but why would they there would be a storm of protest & Google would probably be investigated for abusing its search monopoly.

if you install realplayer, it has a video downloader ,which works with firefox ,chrome and ie. once installed when you view a video on the net a download this video pop up shows and you can download it, you can set up a target folder for the downloads and it also has a converter feature to convert to mp3, which is really handy for music on youtube as most of the videos are slideshows,not worth saving,

I'll tell you what. IE will survive, Opera will survive because they are innovative. And FireFox will die, but not completely. FireFox was always open source. Someone will take that Source, adjust things around and re-brand FireFox. It is Google vs Microsoft and unless you've been under a rock you'll know that by now. Both companies have profits in the billions, both want literally world domination. I use Chrome, but I was a Opera user years ago, if Chrome continues to go this "I want your life recorded" route will go back to Opera and stay there forever, even if a re-branded version of FireFox comes out. Quite frankly it is extremely boring that we all can't be unique and everyone has Windows installed, everyone has Chrome installed, everyone has a house, everyone has a tablet, everyone buy pizza from one of the three most common pizza places, etc etc. We need to stop being dominated. And for those that thinks it's a wonderful life how things are now, someone needs to knock you upside the head so hard then beat you until you say "It is not a wonderful life, because I am loosing my self worth and identity under corporate branding.

I quit using Firefox roughly 2 years ago. I love using Chrome, and I refuse to touch Internet Explorer.

I used to be a big fan of Firefox for a good while (A few years I believe), until I started using Chrome exclusively.

I don't think Firefox is going to go anywhere at all, seeing as a lot of people still use and love using it over IE for years.

I even have Palemoon as my secondary browser now.

I have FF, but rarely use it as Opera suits all my needs. The things I see complaints about are newer versions breaking extensions which is alienating both corporate users and the extension developers themselves. A Guy

Quite frankly it is extremely boring that we all can't be unique and everyone has Windows installed, everyone has Chrome installed, everyone has a house, everyone has a tablet, everyone buy pizza from one of the three most common pizza places, etc etc. We need to stop being dominated. And for those that thinks it's a wonderful life how things are now, someone needs to knock you upside the head so hard then beat you until you say "It is not a wonderful life, because I am loosing my self worth and identity under corporate branding.

I found Opera to be a browser aimed at teens and post teen folks. FF on the other hand is aimed at main stream adults. I tried Opera twice, but always returned to FF. I use Chrome as a secondary browser. I made it my default a few times, but always returned to FF. :)

What a strange perception of Opera you have.
Opera with its numerous features & options seem's to be far more suited to the more technically able whatever their age. Opera reminds me of another favourite program of mine Adobe Photoshop which is very easy to use but complex in the sense there is so much to discover with a little effort.
