IE9 error "file could not be downloaded"

    Hi

When I was trying to download a file in ie9, the open button did not do anything. I clicked on save as and it just said "the file could not be downloaded". This happens with any file I try to download. Windows was installed last week and the system is new. Firefox and Chrome will download files. If anyone has suggestions, please reply.

    Thanks, shelbourne104

try to save it on your DESKTOP with a small name like docum.test
    does that work?
Try temporary disabling your antivirus scanner and try again

Can you download txt files, doc files, xls files etc? Screenshot displays MSI files only

Create a new user on that computer (or use another already created account) and logon with that username. Still same problem? You can delete that user later (and his userprofile) if you wish

I've just figured out that I can't make new user profiles. I moved them from C to E and when I try to make new ones they don't appear in C or E.
I have attached an image of my latest attempt to download.
I tried on another user account but it dodn't work either

Have you tried resetting IE9 ? Internet Options/Advanced/Reset. If that doesn't help may want to uninstall/reinstall IE9.

In the download list (press ctrl-J in IE9) you see text called "options", click on that. There you see the default download folder.

Are you able to make a file in that folder? Can you save a file on desktop from internet explorer?

Can't you make new profiles? What did you do exactly to move profiles from C to E?

I reset IE9 but it still didn't work.
I used User Profile - Change Default Location to change the profile location.
