how to organize favorites on internet explore 8 by date?

Hello, I accidentally right clicked on one of my favorites and clicked on "sort by name" Now, i'm trying to figure out how to organize my favorites by date since this is how I had it previously. I tried doing a search, but all i got was this instruction on how to do it by going to my favorites folder then clicking on view/sort by/ date modified, but that helped only for that window and not the favorites list on the actual browser. Can someone guide me on how to do this? Feedback would be great, thanks!

informative link, but didn't really help with my question. so you're saying that I can't go back to having my favorites in order by date? I've always had my favorites like that on IE 8 and when i updated to IE 9 it was like that also seems to be like that by default, but then i went back to IE 8 since I didn't like IE 9. As i was going over my favorites earlier i right clicked on one of the favorites and clicked on "sort by name" instead of "properties" Grr... maybe i'm left with no choice but to restore to one of the last dates to hve the favorites to how i had it before... Thanks!

From what I have read you can't sort by date.

Internet explorer stores the sorting of favorites in registry (HKLU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder\Favorites
This allows users to sort favorites in their preferred way by using drag and drop. By default, new items are added to the end of the list to not disturb carefully sorted lists. The only automated way of sorting provided is sorting by name as you already discovered, but you can drag and drop any favorite to any place!
This is also the reason that change the sorting in the favorites folder itself does not change the order in the favorites menu.

I just restored my laptop to a previous date (Dec. 17,2011 7 :42 p.m.) since there was a windows update at that time. Now, my favorites is like it was before (in order by date ) I was trying to prevent the restoration, but had to do it since it was my last resort. Thanks for the help though :)

    Hmmmm - very interesting

After reading the post I decided to try this myself. I right clicked on one
of the Favourites as mentioned and then clicked sort by name. I also
had mine sorted (well in order of date added to the list).

I have gone into C: DRIVE -> users -> my user acoount and then
clicked on the Favourites folder to look at available options and then
opened the folder to view available options also. I can't see a solution to this one
either. it doesn't bother me to much but I would like to know if
it can be changed back to the order in which the Favourites were added to the list if for nothing else than to satisfy my curiousity.

While inside the folder I looked at the Favourites list in the Details view and noticed
the small drop down list accessible through clicking the Date Modified heading above the uppermost favourite (this shows the little calender with options).
This however, only gives the user the option of restoring a previous version and if no
restore point has been created on the day the change was made then I can't see a solution.

I have a feeling that I used to come across this problem in Vista but am unsure as
to whether or not it could be changed back. I guess I'll be off now to do a bit of study up on this.
On an unrelated topic- I only found out this morning (probably old news to most) that only
a single image can be added as an attachment when emailing in Windows 7 whereas Vista
you could select multiple images to upload at once- how's that for backward progress!!

Anyways - I'll probably spend the next 4 hours trying to find a solution to this cause I hate being beaten!!

At the moment I only have one thought on the matter (without going into hours of research) and
that is to create a new favourites folder and add the favourites back in order by using the "Date Modified" column to see what went where.

Surely there has to be an easier way though- any suggestions anyone?

Yes I did see that worked for you.

I do have a restore point from a driver install last night. I added about 7 sites to my
favourites list last night before that to. As I said , I'm not really to worried about it anyway
but I have a restore point there if I want it. I would like to send a note to the Win 8 developers though!
Dear Win 8 developer - please add a button for Favourites which allows the user to sort
Favourites by Date Added even AFTER they have changed to sort by name and without having
to do a restore - thankyou Mr. Windows developmental man/ woman
