IE9 modified the behavior of my taskbar?

Hello. I just installed IE9 earlier this evening, and I observed a peculiar change to my taskbar that I cannot seem to correct.

Prior to the install, I has "shrunk" the shortcut icon area, so that only a couple of the icons were displayed; I could access the hidden ones by click on the up chevrons (just as one would do in the notification area). If it's not clear what I mean, this is the same behavior as one would have in WinXP using the Quick Launch bar if you minimized the QL display area; a couple icons would be displayed, and the rest would be hidden, but easily accessible.

Since I installed IE9, all of the shortcuts in the taskbar are being displayed, and I cannot find a way to set things up the way they were before.

I noticed that "lock taskbar" was checked, so I've unchecked it, but there was no change. Previously, this would have enabled me to resize the QL/shortcut area, but it's not working now.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. It's a small thing, but it bugs me. I hate when software modifies things unexpectedly.
