Windows 7: How do I remove imap.gmail configuration from Windows Live Mail 2011

How do I remove imap.gmail.com from my Windows Live Mail 2011 account? I had configured my windows email with gmail, and I no longer want to do that. I can't seem to find a way to keep gmail from checking my mail through my Windows Live Mail account. I'm afraid if I delete my gmail account I would no longer have access to my Windows Live Mail account. I have gone to settings in gmail and disabled imap. When I did this, I no longer was able to send or receive mail in Windows Live Mail, so I had to go back and enable imap in gmail.

Gmail can't be used to sign-in to WLM, you need to have a Hotmail Account.

"WLM 2011" usually refers to the downloadable email program that is part of Windows Live Essentials. It is a program, not an "Account". Perhaps you are referring to your Hotmail account which you view via your browser? Or do you view it via the program, WLM 2011, but after the Hotmail is forwarded to gmail in the cloud. Or does gmail go out and get your Hotmail? It sounds like you want to break the connection between Hotmail and gmail on the web, independently of your email program, WLM 2011. You can do that via your browser at either gmail or Hotmail, which ever one was originally set up to bring the Hotmail over to gmail. Having done that you can view the mail from each separately by setting up separate email accounts, one for your gmail and one for your Hotmail. If all your mail uses Hotmail (an @Hotmail.com address) then you don't need to keep a gmail account in WLM 2011 but you do need to set up a Hotmail Account in your WLM 2011 program.
