Saving user ID's and passwords

Hello,

Something I've ignored for a long time but annoys me a lot.

I have save ID and password set to ON and have had as long as I can remember.

There are some sites where I have ID's and passwords already saved and they are fine but when I add another ID it won't save either the ID or password. One site has saved two separate ones, in Windows that is. Other sites don't seem to allow any and others save them now and again.

It just isn't something I can figure out and don't want to delete all that's there and start again as, frankly, I can't remember some of those passwords after so long using this auto process.

What am I doing wrong please? Hope it's a dummy question.

Thanks all.

Some sites just don`t do it, always write down usernames and passwords when you create an account.

Yeah ad,

I already said that but it doesn't explain why a site takes two and stops while other sites just keep adding them or the erratic behaviour. It's not actually a site function either mate. It's a Windows function we can turn on and off. I understand only too well that sites can countereact many things, such as copy and paste.

But don't understand why as it just angers users.

So, yes please, any other ideas most welcome.

This problem requires a lot of trial and error --- and usually it is a combination of settings or corruptions causing the problem(s).

For example, there are multiple settings that affect the saving of on-line passwords:

Open an IE page and go to: Tools, Internet Options, Content, AutoComplete, AutoComplete Settings.
In the AutoComplete Settings dialogue box check or uncheck the items which you wish to automatically save and/or complete. Be sure to check "Forms" and "User names on passwords and forms."

Go to Control Panel, Internet Options, General Tab, Browsing history section, and be sure to UNcheck “Delete browsing history on exit.”

Control Panel includes a new application called Credential Manager that allows you to save your credentials (usernames and passwords) for websites you log into, and other resources you connect to (such as other systems). Those credentials are saved in the Windows Vault, which can be backed up and restored. This is similar to a tool in XP and Vista. Go to Control Panel, User Accounts and Family Safety, Credential Manager, (or from the Instant Search, type in control/userpasswords2) and you will be brought to the Advanced User Accounts Control Panel. Go into: “Store Credentials for Automatic Log-on” where you can manage passwords for your account.

Also, take a look at this 3rd party app:

A big thanks to Imperfect. I just did what you suggested and the site I had the most problems with saved id and password on the first try after having done that. Maybe 5 minutes resolved all those years of frustration.

Thank you so much mate.
