Cant get IE9 to open a localserver

Apologies for repeating this thread but my previous thread somehow got marked as "Solved" but it isn't yet. Any help gratefully received.

I'm using Wamp local server and Chrome and Forefox are fine but IE 9 does not open a page it just goes to Search Results for "localhost". I've deleted the htacess.txt file from the localserver folder.
    Any ideas
P.S. IE 8 works fine on another machine (WinXP)

Not specifically, but can you reproduce it if you run fiddler, launch IE from within fiddler (click the "Browse" button in the toolbar at the top), and try to browse to http://localhost/ ? The log should prove interesting.

Many thanks for introducing me to "Fiddler" What a useful piece of software. Have a confession though, can you believe I hadn't tried "127.0.0.1" instead of "localhost". Needless to say it works. Not quite sure why but the immediate problem is solved. I will study up Fiddler as it looks to be a bit of a learning curve and will need a bit of dedicated time to absorb, well my poor old brain will. No doubt it will prove it's worth in the future
    Thanks again
