unauthorized email being sent from email address

My friend's email contacts are receiving email from her address but she did not send them. Most of these emails contain only links. She has contacted McAfee, they checked her computer, and assure her that she is virus free. Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks!

    Clark,

Remove McAfee, it is horrible. But this is probably just experience talking. However, people don't need a virus to have access to your email. Change the password!

Change the password on the email account and they will stop.

This just recently happened to one of my friends. I kept getting spam emails from his account. Actually I still am. I haven't been able to get a hold of him yet, and I don't want to reply fearing the spam bot will trigger my email as valid, and try to get me, but I think that already happened. After some spams from him I received a bunch of "Undeliverable Message" emails sent to people I don't know hitting my inbox, and after researching, the code showed they were sent from my email address, but I never sent them, and they were not in my sent folder. I changed my password, and they stopped. I hope that's the end of them.

You can send him a messege, it will be fine. Or call him. But don't send messeges to someone you don't know (or if you do, just put them in the junk folder if they start harrassing you, problem solved.

We solved this problem by running Malwarebytes. It caught 9 threats and once we removed them, the emails stopped. Thanks for all of your replies.
