Windows cant communicate with Primary DNS server - search engine fails

Home network 2 PCs running Windows 7. Cable modem and Dlink ethernet switch. Protected by Norton 360. Using IE 8 (Previously upgraded to IE9 but uninstalled as thought this may have been cause of problem)
    One PC works fine
Other PC can access internet by entering address and can acess email. However if try web search (eg using bing) it cannot connect - error message Windows cant connect with Primary DNS server. Troubleshooter suggests restarting modem etc. This does not make any difference.

Have tried to follow advice shown in various on-line discussions but unable to resolve.

Perhaps this is just some incorrect setting that causes blockage?

Check that the settings for the network interface card are set to automatic as detailed here:
    Change TCP/IP settings

Then - just for fun - uninstall Norton 360. Perhaps some setting got barfed in that 360 tool You might try Microsoft Security Essentials as a free alternative.

I have flushed the DNS cache and problem now seems to be resolved. (I tried this previously and there was no impact!).

Thanks to those who have responded and tried to help me.
